The latter is not working well these days and the former seems to work quite well. There is a new hawkeye package that will be included with all future builds.
The command can be changed in pibox.cfg to the following:
hawkeye -c /etc/hawkeye.cfg -p 9090 -F 30 -j 100
This will only work once RM #658 is completed.

No longer needed - I got omxplayer and mjpeg-streamer working again.
