Requires building a custom (from git) version of ffmpeg which it (I think) statically links. The build of the custom ffmpeg failed on my build host on the initial try.
It may make better sense to make this a package build, like xbmcbox, in order to cross compile instead of adding the heavy ffmpeg dependency just to build it. I could then release the binary as an opkg.
A binary build of omxplayer is available from this discussion: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5543
I have doubts that this will "just work" under PiBox, but it won't hurt to try it. If it works, I can create an opkg for it.
Update: the original link to the binary doesn't work. The latest link I can find is for a .deb package:
http://omxplayer.sconde.net/
This includes omxplayer-specific ffmpeg libraries to be installed under /usr/lib/omxplayer. I need to convert this to an opkg to try it.
The binary doesn't work. It's not recognized by the pibox loader. But I kind of expected that.
- Target version changed from 1.0 - Atreides to 2.0 - Harkonnen
- Target version changed from 2.0 - Harkonnen to 0.9.0
With the new Matchbox UI I think it would be useful to create an app that can display the files under /media (from USB sticks) and then launch omxplayer to play them.
Moving this to 0.9.0.

I've created an opkg cross-compiled metabuild for the omxplayer. The player works with audio over hdmi (use -o hdmi option).
As soon as I check in the build system for omxplayer I'll close this issue.
